Dialect Presentation Competition: The Living Breath of Language at the European School

On February 13, 2026, the middle school hosted the “Dialect Presentation” competition-event as part of the “Mother Tongue Week” initiative. The event aimed to highlight the richness of Armenian dialects by presenting them in the context of culture, cuisine, traditional costume, and national customs.

Armenian dialects are a vibrant expression of our language. They were formed in different regions, carrying the historical, geographical, and cultural characteristics of each area. With this idea in mind, the competition was designed not only as a presentation but also as an in-depth research project.

Through a draw, each class was assigned one dialect. Students explored the region’s:

  • cultural heritage,
  • historical background,
  • geographical location,
  • national costume and its distinctive features.

They prepared informative booklets that included maps, descriptions of traditional costumes, and interesting facts about the region.

Each class also prepared a traditional dish characteristic of the given region.

The event was competitive in nature, and Class 6/1 was declared the winner.

We congratulate the winners and thank all participants for their dedication and enthusiastic involvement.

The event reflected several key attributes of the IB Learner Profile:
