Together for the Better: Empowering Student Advocacy Against Bullying
In alignment with our commitment to creativity and innovation, our learning community continues to foster an environment of inclusivity and trustworthiness. Our Primary Language Learners (PLLs) have recently taken the lead in a powerful initiative focused on social responsibility and principled participation.
Student-Led Advocacy This project serves as a prime example of Student Agency. The anti-bullying advocacy was entirely:
PLL-Initiated and Led: Students identified the need for a safer environment and took the first steps.
Principled Participation: Learners engaged in collaborative campaigns and classroom conversations to address social dynamics with integrity.
Creative Action & Awareness Through creative expressions and awareness activities, students explored the core values of empathy and respectful relationships. Under the unifying message ‘Together for the Better’, this experience:
Nurtures Emotional Intelligence by understanding the perspectives of others.
Strengthens Social Responsibility through active community service.
Reinforces their role as Principled and Caring members of a supportive learning community.
By taking a stand, our PLLs are not just learning about peace—ils are actively creating it.
The event reflected several key attributes of the IB Learner Profile:
- Communicators – Express ideas confidently and creatively in multiple languages and through various modes of communication; collaborate effectively, listening carefully to the perspectives of other individuals and groups.
- Principled – Act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness and justice, and respect for the dignity and rights of people everywhere; take responsibility for actions and their consequences.
- Open-Minded – Appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others; seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and are willing to grow from the experience.
- Caring – Show empathy, compassion, and respect; have a commitment to service, and act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around them.
- Reflective – Thoughtfully consider the world and their own ideas and experience; work to understand their strengths and weaknesses in order to support their learning and personal development.
