September 21 marks the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia, reminding us of our history, cultural heritage, and national identity. On September 21, 1991, Armenia held an independence referendum, which led to the country’s declaration as an independent state.

At European School, Independence Day became not only a celebration, but also a meaningful, values-based learning experience. Students had the opportunity to reflect on the ideas of independence, freedom, and shared responsibility, connecting historical events with the present and with their own understanding of these values.

Through music, creative performances, cultural presentations, traditional cuisine, and storytelling, the school community explored different dimensions of Armenian culture. Students shared their thoughts and reflections while developing their communication, research, and critical-thinking skills.

Experiences like these help nurture learners who understand and value their own identity and culture while remaining open to other cultures, different perspectives, and dialogue. Respect for local heritage, combined with global-mindedness, helps shape thoughtful, caring, and responsible citizens.
